3 Easy Ways To Help Not Gain The Dreaded Freshman 15

No matter what, each incoming college student has of heard the tales of the freshman 15. You don't know it's happening, and you'll never know until you reminisce your old high school photos and compare them to now. Either way no one wants to be THAT person. So here are 3 easy ways to keep of those freshman 15 while still enjoying all that delicious cafe food.

1. Plan Ahead.

Most colleges and universities will have a daily list of what they will be serving in each dining hall at any time. Use this tool! If you can see what they are serving ahead of time, then you can figure out what you're going to eat beforehand. For example, if your cafe is serving 3 different sandwiches, 4 different side dishes, and a zillion different fountain drinks to chose from, then decide to pick only 1 from each and no more. The servers should give you the correct proportions so it's up to you to limit yourself to the right amount trips to the serving line.

2. Find the Fruits and Veggies

By loading your tray with fruits and veggies not only make you look healthy, but you'll FEEL healthy too! They're filled with vitamins and minerals to make you feel and do your best. Try making a loaded veggie salad or a simple fruit bowl. They also act as fillers for your appetite making it easier to eat less of the greasy, fatty junk food. So stack up your tray with your favorite fruits and veggies, or branch out and try new ones! College is the time to experiment new things.

3. Water!

I've noticed that whenever I drink a glass of water before any meal, I get full a whole lot quicker. Now I'm not saying to gorge yourself with water right before you eat. The best way is to drink or sip on a small glass an hour or 30 mins prior to eating. Not only does this help reduce a big appetite, but it can help with digestion and absorption of nutrients when you eat. Plus, it's always just a good excuse to drink more water during the day!
